Message From The Chief
Dear Visitors, Neighbors, and Friends,
As the Chief of the Upperco Volunteer Fire Company, I would like to say a few words about who we are and what we do. When people dial 911, their main concern is that someone is coming to help with their emergency. Seldom do people realize what goes into getting the fire engines or ambulance on the street. Our members go through hundreds of hours of training to do what they do, and they all do it for free. But they also dedicate their time to our various fundraising events so that we can fund the purchasing of our equipment, the tools we use, and our general, day-to-day operations. If it weren’t for their selfless devotion to their company and their community, there wouldn’t be a fire company. And we certainly can’t mention their commitment without acknowledging the sacrifices that all of their families make as well. All of our members are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and they all take precious time away from their families to join us. Some even bring their families with them to the fire company. So many of the people that we depend on time and time again aren’t just our own members, but their family members too, who come out to our various fundraisers to lend a hand. But of all of the people who are so important to us, it really is you all, the members of the community, that deserve all of the thanks. If it wasn’t for your repeated attendance at our functions, such as our demolition derbies, dances, or our renowned Blugrass festival, then we couldn’t support our major capital expenses. While we certainly hope that no one needs the multitude of services we provide, we do want everyone to know that we are always standing by, ready, willing, trained, and able to serve, no matter what the call may be for. So, on behalf of the entire Upperco Volunteer Fire Company, and myself, thank you all for allowing us to serve you.
Chief, Upperco Volunteer Fire Company
