APPLY TODAY!!

The Upperco Volunteer Fire Company is a primarily volunteer fire company.  We are actively seeking firefighters, EMTs, and administrative members.  Upperco VFC is a progressive company, located in a rural setting, with a strong commitment to training, fundraising, and fire safety education and awareness.  Getting started is easy.

FAQ’s of Becoming a Volunteer:

Q: How old do I have to be?

A: Members need to be 16 or older.  Anyone under 16 is encouraged to become a cadet with our Junior Fire Company.

          Q: Do I need training?

A: No.  We will provide you with the basic training you need, such as CPR, Blood Bourne Exposure safety, Hazardous Materials, and Firefighter or EMT classes.  If you come to us with training, that’s even better.

Q: Where can I get an application?

A: Click on the link above "APPLY TODAY" or email Info@uppercovfc.org

Q: What is expected of me once I apply?

A: The membership committee will contact you for an interview with them.  Once you have your interview, the membership committee will discuss your application and bring your name up at the next company meeting as a new Probationary Member.  Once on probation, you will be matched with a senior member "mentor", you will be encouraged to spend time at the station, familiarize yourself with the apparatus and equipment, attend meetings, and serve at the various fundraising events.  Certain minimums must be met during your 1-year probationary period.  At the end of your probationary period, the membership committee will discuss your progress as a probationary member and at the next company meeting, the company will vote to bring you off probation.

Q: What are the benefits of volunteering?

A: There are so many benefits to being a volunteer.  The biggest benefit is being able to help your neighbors and your community.  You also receive free fire suppression and EMS training.  There is a retirement plan available (Length of Service Award Program), as well as a tax break for Maryland residents.  The Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association, as well as the Maryland State Fireman’s Association both offer grants and scholarships to students participating in various fire-related higher education programs.  The station also offers access to free Wi-Fi internet and cable television, as well as a bunk room where members can spend the night and staff the equipment.  There are also opportunities available for members to become leaders on the fire operations side, as well as the administrative side.  Finally, the firehouse is very easy to access, located right off of Route 30, between Hampstead and Reisterstown.
