With deep sadness the officers and members of Upperco Volunteer Fire Company announce the passing of our eldest member Morrell E. “Ludie” Blizzard. Ludie passed peacefully at Golden Crest Assisted Living in the morning hours of April 1, 2025. Ludie joined, then, Arcadia Volunteer Fire Company in 1977 serving in many capacities during his time. Most notably achieving the rank of Assistant Chief. Ludie was very active in all fundraising activities and worked for many years in the Coke stand at the carnival, loved his bluegrass festival each year, the monthly bluegrass jams, and was always at the demolition derby. Ludie’s true love was mowing the grass on the carnival grounds and could often be seen mowing for hours on end each week keeping “his grass” perfectly groomed, then quietly stopping at the activities building to sneak a hot dog and a coke so Ms. Doris didn’t find out. The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, 2025, 10:00-11:00 am at the Upperco Volunteer Fire Company Activities Building, 16020 Carnival Avenue, Upperco, MD 21155. The funeral service will begin promptly at 11:00am. Interment to follow in Hampstead Cemetery. Ludie, we will miss you Bub. Rest peacefully sir. We shall take it from here.
